VOIP - Phone reachability testing and connectivity configuration with ISP network

Are you experiencing issues with ping responses on your SIP phone? I recently resolved a similar issue for one of our employee, and I'd like to share the steps I took as a hashtag

NetworkEngineer.

Firstly, I verified how the IP VOIP phone is connected with GW  to reach the INTERNET traffic. Then , I cleared no physical connectivity issue with VOIP phones with network switches or routers. I verified that POE enabled on IP Phone or not . Later, I have gather the IP address of the SIP phone  for reachability testing from other network equipment's on reachability testing.
I cross-checked that the SIP details were correctly configured on the employee's SIP phone. After troubleshooting, I checked the hashtagMAC & IP configuration and found that the MAC address associated with the SIP IP was not displaying, indicating a possible physical or data link layer issue.

Next, I investigated our switch configurations and located the port connected to the SIP phone. I discovered that only the internet VLAN was allowed, so I configured specific commands to allow both voice and internet Vlan via trunk on the SIP phone.

Note: we dont usually add vlan in SIP Phone it dependents on the scenerio, only if the SIP phone ethernet is connect with PC , else we dont need to add/pass vlan in any of the sip configuration.

After implementing these changes, I verified that ping responses were reaching their destination. Finally, I bound the employee's details to the extension via IP.

Key parameters I checked:

• SIP phone configuration
• MAC & IPconfiguration
• Switch configurations
• VLAN settings
• Trunk configuration

I have just mentioned generalized terms for the resolution steps i performed due to company policy but Alhamdulilah it was my first case of the day and i have successfully accomplished it in our Cisco sip phone.
